Back in our cozy cocoon after a weekend spent in San Jose taking care of deb’s niece. One word. EXHAUSTED!
Well, exhausted, but happy, mostly grateful we were able to give a two day away time to deb’s sister and hubby… and grateful to have such a sweet, endearing child in our lives.
One great side benefit of exhausted is i think i can take the poll off the side bar where deb’s contemplating having one more child! Think we have officially entered kids are great, but they shall forever remain in the grandchild, or extended family side of the equation!! Whoo hooo!
I did bring my camera, but somehow never managed to pull it out… we kept up a pace only two overly protective aunties could maintain! Tag team, individual relays, some passing of the baton somehow all took precedence to actually capturing the great moments! (pictures from last year, where we were carefree aunties with mama in the background!).
On the agenda. Park, ice cream, play, park, play, farmers market, park, eat, play, little tv (sorry mama, it was all in aid to give waining aunties time to regain energy), sleep?
Some of the funniest moments of the weekend were in her more vulnerable moments. I’m not sure if i mentioned, but this little girl has a verbal and mental capacity of someone well beyond her years? Anyway.. she’s still nursing at times, weaning down, so mostly a comfort thing. So everytime she’d be feeling a little “i miss mama”, she’d ask in a plaintive and hopeful voice for milk.
So last night the conversation went like this:
Niece: “Milk?”
Deb: “No sweetie, i don’t have any…let’s read a book?”
Neice: “But auntie debbie, you have boobies?”
Deb: “Hmmm … that’s right sweetie, but i don’t have milk”
Neice: “Can we try? Can i see if you have lines? (still not sure what that means?)”
Deb: “Hmmm… let’s read a book?”
Neice: “Hmmmm… Kimie, do you have boobies?”.
