As a young couple my parents left the security of suburban Montreal life in the to head off to exotic California. Once they got out there, they met an assortment of people, who they kept in touch with all these years later.
One of those connections became a big part of our family. We called him ”Uncle John B”. I still have to piece together the history of the connection, i believe he was initially a business… but his eventual role in our family was dear adopted Uncle.
He was a great guy, funny, fun, and a great sport. He often came along on sailing adventures with us.. this picture a classic. My dad (to the left)Â and he chatting away, probably about business, while enjoying a good sail. (or maybe on closer inspection, both snoozing?)
From our perspective, he was so much fun, funny, warm and always seemed such a free spirit, wisk in and out of our lives seemingly without a care in the world… we all adored him.

Turns out Uncle John B is still alive and kicking, living near to Santa Cruz, so i emailed him a couple of days ago to see if we could meet and catch up. He emailed back right away and was thrilled to hear from me… which gave me the warm and fuzzies to be sure!
He almost in passing said we’d have to postpone the visit as he was scheduled for a double bypass surgery the next day. He left me with the name/number of his girlfriend, so we’ve been going back and forth on his progress. By all accounts he did well in surgery, and is recovering.
Am looking forward to seeing him, catching up and connecting with this lovely and dear Uncle of mine… so goddess my dear, make sure to help him heal well.. would you?
